Pola Komunikasi Dalam Tradisi Maccerak Pare Pada Masyarakat Bugis Di Desa Prajen Jaya Kecamatan Banyuasin II Kabupaten Banyuasin

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the communication patterns in the Maccerak Pare tradition among the Bugis community in Prajen Jaya Village, Banyuasin II District, Banyuasin Regency. Maccerak Pare is a traditional harvest thanksgiving ritual containing cultural, social, and religious values passed down through generations. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving customary leaders, community figures, and local residents. The results reveal three main forms of communication patterns: verbal, nonverbal, and social communication. Verbal communication is reflected in prayers, chants, and the symbolic use of the Bugis language. Nonverbal communication is expressed through symbols, gestures, facial expressions, traditional attire, and ritual tools that represent cultural identity. Meanwhile, social communication includes horizontal interactions among citizens and vertical communication between traditional leaders and the community, emphasizing solidarity and social hierarchy. The values embodied in this tradition include religiosity, social harmony, cooperation, gratitude, and cultural preservation. From an Islamic perspective, Maccerak Pare is acceptable as long as it expresses gratitude to Allah SWT without polytheistic elements. Thus, this tradition serves as a means of cultural preservation, social solidarity reinforcement, and spiritual reflection within the Bugis community
