An Analysis of the Concept of Baligh in Islam and Psychological Maturity Toward the Phenomenon of Early Marriage Among Students at SMA Negeri 1 Lembak
Main Article Content
Abstract
Early marriage is still a social issue that happens among teenagers and brings many psychological, social, and educational effects. In Islam, baligh is often understood as a sign that a person has reached maturity and is responsible for religious duties. However, this idea is sometimes simplified as a sign that someone is ready to get married, without considering psychological maturity. This study aims to examine the relationship between the concept of baligh in Islam and psychological maturity in understanding early marriage at SMA Negeri 1 Lembak. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method through literature review and observations in the school environment. The results show that in Islam, baligh does not only mean physical or biological maturity, but also requires mental maturity (rusyd) and the ability to take responsibility. From a psychological point of view, high school students are still in their teenage years, a stage where emotional, thinking, and social skills are still developing. Therefore, reaching baligh does not automatically mean someone is ready for marriage. Combining Islamic and psychological perspectives is important to give students a clear and complete understanding, so they can think carefully and wisely about early marriage.
