Management of Qur’anic Learning Centers in Improving Children’s Qur’anic Literacy: A Study at TPA Al Barokah Palembang

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of a Qur’anic learning center (Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an/TPA) in improving the quality of children's Qur’an reading and writing learning at TPA Al-Barokah, located in Dua Puluh Tiga Ilir Village, Bukit Kecil District, Palembang City. This research employed a descriptive method with a qualitative approach using an ethnographic method. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the learning management process at the TPA. The results of the study indicate that TPA Al-Barokah is a non-formal educational institution that focuses on Qur’anic learning, particularly in tahsin (improvement of Qur’an recitation) and tahfidz (Qur’an memorization), as well as character development among children. The management of learning activities is carried out through three main stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. In the planning stage, the management organizes learning schedules, groups students based on their Qur’an reading abilities, and prepares learning facilities such as Iqra’ books and Qur’anic texts. The implementation of learning activities is conducted regularly using both individual and classical teaching methods to enhance students’ abilities in reading and writing the Qur’an. Learning evaluation is conducted periodically through reading tests, writing tests of Arabic letters, and observation of students’ progress. Supporting factors include community support, teachers’ dedication, and students’ enthusiasm, while inhibiting factors consist of limited teaching staff, differences in students’ abilities, and limited learning time. Overall, the management of TPA Al-Barokah plays an important role in improving the quality of Qur’an reading and writing learning among children in the surrounding community.
