Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of interpersonal communication in managing conflicts between local students and transmigrant students at SMAN 1 Tungkal Jaya. Conflicts arise due to cultural differences, communication styles, and intergroup perceptions that lead to misunderstandings and interpersonal conflicts. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving six informants, including a guidance counselor, teachers, students, alumni, and parents. The findings indicate that conflict resolution is carried out through interpersonal communication emphasizing openness, empathy, supportive attitudes, and direct dialogue. Teachers and guidance counselors act as neutral mediators using collaborative strategies to help students understand differences, manage emotions, and reach joint solutions. The school also implements continuous guidance through counseling, classroom activities, and reinforcement of tolerance values to prevent recurring conflicts. These findings confirm that interpersonal communication is an effective strategy for reducing conflict and strengthening students’ social relationships in a multicultural school environment.
