Telaah Prinsip Al-‘Ibratu bi ‘Umūmil Lafzhi dalam Ushulut Tafsir Perspektif Tafsir Keindonesiaan

Abstract
This study examines the application of the interpretive principle al-‘ibratu bi ‘umūmil lafzhi lā bi khuṣūṣis sabab within the Indonesian context of Qur’anic exegesis, focusing on M. Quraish Shihab’s interpretation of Surah Al-Mā’idah verse 38. Through a qualitative library research approach, the study reveals that this principle—asserting the generality of Qur’anic wording regardless of specific circumstances of revelation—serves as a bridge between the textual universality of the Qur’an and the diversity of Indonesia’s socio-legal reality. Quraish Shihab acknowledges the general legal implication of the verse but emphasizes contextual implementation, requiring strict evidentiary standards, judicial fairness, and social considerations. The study concludes that Shihab's contextual approach offers a transformative model of tafsir that maintains scriptural authority while being adaptive to the Indonesian context. This form of tafsir reflects a broader trend in Nusantara scholarship to reconcile universality with locality.
