Literal: English Teaching and Learning Journal (e-ISSN: 2964-7886 / p-ISSN: 2963-7562) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that aims to advance the boundaries of theoretical, methodological, and empirical knowledge in English language education and applied linguistics. Published periodically, the journal serves as a vital global forum for deconstructing, testing, and advancing current theory and practice in the field. Our core mission is to bridge macro-level educational frameworks with micro-level classroom innovations, fostering transformative dialogue that addresses the complex challenges of English Language Teaching (ELT) in the 21st century.

To maintain high scholarly standards, the journal prioritizes cutting-edge research across five strategic pillars: Critical Pedagogy, Policy, and Global Englishes; Digital Technologies and AI Integration in ELT; Psychology, Identity, and Agency of Learners and Teachers; Curriculum Deconstruction and Assessment Innovation; and Applied Linguistic Methodology. We strongly encourage submissions that employ robust, rigorous, and innovative methodologies—from advanced quantitative designs (such as SEM and HLM) and longitudinal qualitative studies to comprehensive mixed methods. The journal particularly seeks papers that offer substantial theoretical advancements beyond routine pedagogical reporting.

While Literal is firmly grounded in reflective insights derived from Indonesia's dynamic ELT landscape, the journal maintains a rigorous global outlook. This journal distinguishes itself by requiring all published work to articulate a clear, transferable, and significant essence for the international scholarly community. Each manuscript must contextualize its local findings within the broader global discourse, ensuring that these insights contribute to the cross-cultural evolution of English language pedagogy and policy worldwide. Consequently, local descriptive studies without strong conceptual or theoretical consistency are beyond the scope of this journal.
