Maintenance of Facilities and Infrastructure in Improving the Quality of Student Learning

Abstract
The maintenance of educational facilities and infrastructure is an important aspect of school facilities management because it plays a direct role in supporting the quality of learning. Maintenance not only serves to ensure the continued use of facilities, but also aims to extend their service life, prevent more serious damage, and create a safe, healthy, and comfortable learning environment. This study aims to describe the practices of maintaining educational facilities and infrastructure and their implications for learning quality at MTs Ainul Yaqin. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research was conducted at MTs Ainul Yaqin, Jambi City, from June to September 2025. The research subjects were selected using purposive sampling techniques, including the vice principal in charge of facilities and infrastructure as well as several students. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with data validity ensured through source and method triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the maintenance of facilities and infrastructure at MTs Ainul Yaqin is carried out through routine maintenance, damage prevention, minor repairs, and major repairs. Routine maintenance involves the participation of all school members and has a positive impact on students’ comfort and learning motivation. However, the implementation of maintenance has not been fully optimal due to budget constraints, limited human resources, and planning that is still reactive in nature. Damage to facilities such as classrooms, desks, chairs, whiteboards, and toilets remains an obstacle that affects the effectiveness of learning. This study concludes that well-planned, integrated, and sustainable maintenance of facilities and infrastructure is a key factor in creating a conducive learning environment and improving the quality of learning at MTs Ainul Yaqin.
