The Teacher’s Role as a Curriculum Developer in Improving the Quality of Learning
Main Article Content
Abstract
The advancement of educational quality in MTsN Kota Batu is closely linked to teachers’ capacity to continuously refine and develop the instructional curriculum. This study aims to comprehensively describe the role of teachers as curriculum developers and examine their contribution to improving educational quality within the institution. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, focusing on the processes of planning, implementation, evaluation, and professional collaboration in curriculum development. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. This methodological framework enabled an in-depth understanding of how curriculum practices are enacted in real classroom contexts. The findings indicate that teachers play a crucial role in transforming the formal curriculum into relevant and meaningful learning tools by designing Instructional Trajectories, Educational Objective Trajectories, and customized teaching modules tailored to students’ needs. During the implementation phase, teachers apply innovative strategies such as project-based learning, demonstrations, virtual laboratory utilization, and collaborative activities to promote active engagement and the development of twenty-first-century competencies. Evaluation is conducted reflectively to ensure continuous improvement of instructional strategies and curriculum content. Moreover, collaboration through the school’s internal MGMP (Subject Teacher Deliberation Group) serves as a vital platform for aligning learning materials and strengthening teachers’ professional competence. Overall, the study concludes that teachers’ active involvement as curriculum innovators significantly enhances instructional quality through adaptive, creative, and student-centered curriculum modification practices.
