Analysis of social conflict in Naguib Mahfouz's novel "Heart of the Night" (a socio-literary study)

Abstrak
The novel "Qalbul Lail" is a novel that describes the life of a young man named Jaafar who lost everything, his family, wealth, and social status due to bad decisions. This novel also displays a lot of social conflicts. Based on this, the researcher is interested in analyzing social conflicts in the novel Qalbul Lail. The purpose of this study is to describe the forms of conflict and consensus as well as power and authority that occur in the novel Qalbul Lail by Najib Mahfouz, to describe the groups involved in the conflict contained in the novel Qalbul Lail. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive method. The data for this study is in the form of information about the text units of the novel Qalbul Lail, the results are in the form of written words. The data collection technique used in this study is by using the reading and note-taking technique. While the data analysis technique uses descriptive analysis. The results of this study are: The forms of conflict and consensus as well as power and authority that occur in the novel Qalbul Lail are conflicts due to differences in views, violent conflicts, conflicts over matchmaking, political conflicts, and conflicts in the form of murder. As for the consensus, namely consensus regarding teaching agreements, consensus on matchmaking, and consensus on continuing education. Power, the power of grandfathers over grandchildren, fathers over children, and mothers over children. authority over property. The groups involved in the conflict in the novel Qalbul Lail include interest groups and pseudo groups.
