Abstract

Sindang first appeared during the reign of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate. The Sindang region is an area that is used as the border of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate so that its people can defend their area from outside attacks, so that these Sindang people are the origin of the Sindang language. The research method used is the historical method, with stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results show that the Sindang people live in the highlands around the Bukit Barisan mountains. Within this community, there is a group that lives in the lowlands in the Bukit Barisan area, so it is called Lembak (to Lembak or to the bottom). Over time, they spread to various other areas. So these people in Rejang who speak the Sindang language are better known as the Lembak people. The Saling area lies along the Saling River which empties into the Beliti River, making it the Muara Saling area. The language spreads through the Beliti River and the majority use the Sindang (Lembak) dialect. Furthermore, the people of Musi Rawas and Lubuk Linggau refer to Sindang as Col/Cul language, which has become their local identity, because in daily conversation the frequency of the word 'cul' meaning 'no' is very high. So Sindang is a language family that comes from the same root. Keywords: Sindang Language, Historical Study, Local Wisdom
