Abstract

 
Abstract:The island of Java is divided into 3 parts, namely Central Java, East Java and West Java. Each region still has differences, from language, customs to traditions. For the people of East Java and Central Java they are familiar with the term mitoni and for the people of West Java it is called nujuhbulan.Even though the names are different, they still have the same meaning, namely salvation for pregnant women who are 7 months old. The holding of mitoni with the aim that prospective mothers and prospective babies get safety from the time they are in the womb to growing up. The mitoni ritual process is marked by splashing, water from 7 wells, 7 kinds of flowers, polo pendhem, cengkir coconut and there is a cake which is a procot cake which is mandatory in the mitoni process. This cake has the meaning that it will be easy for the mother to give birth, the baby will be born easily , If the meaning of the word procot means easy to get out without hindrance and safe. Steamed cakes are made from rice flour, brown sugar and coconut milk and then wrapped in a cone-shaped form of jackfruit leaves. The cone is made like a funnel but has no holes. Procot cake has a soft and chewy texture. To be able to produce a soft and chewy cake texture, you have to have special skills, usually mothers who are used to making it. The softer and chewier it is believed to be a suggestion when giving birth easily without a hitch. But unfortunately, tradition making procot cake is not developed enough and not followed by many Javanese women because it is considered difficult to make it. Even though the procot cake is made from simple ingredients, it requires skills to get a soft and chewy texture because through the texture of the cake it will symbolize the birth process later. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. and using open interviews with female respondents, Javanese and married. It consists of 25 people aged 50-55 years, 15 people representing the millennial generation and 15 people representing generation Z. This phenomenon appears as a reflection of reality which cannot stand alone, because it has a meaning that requires further interpretation.
