Abstract

The symbolic meaning and function of the Nape Ritual which is used as a traditional food dish in the tradition of the people of Purwadadi village, Lebak Wangi Serang sub-district, Banten. The implementation of the Nape Ritual which has many myths. And also how this food became an important component in the tradition of salvation. The Nape ritual is a culture of making traditional food together. So that this culture has various values, namely religious values ​​and social values. The religious value described is taken from the function of nape as analms from the owner of the intention which is believed to be a form of worship. And social values ​​are reflected in the form of social solidarity that is continuously built and maintained by brotherhood in a system of togetherness. Of all the functions and meanings of the Nape ritual, it gives its own characteristics to the Purwadadi people who still hold strongly on the legacy of the whole family from generation to generation. This has a very good impact on the existence of traditional food in Banten so that it can become a cultural heritage.
