This writing discusses the local knowledge of women regarding the tradition of processing shrimp paste (terasi) in Kuala Sungai Pasir Village, Cengal Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The research employs a qualitative method with an anthropological approach. The data sources include primary sources, such as direct interviews with producers and processors of terasi, as well as local community members, and secondary sources, including books, journals, and documents relevant to this study.
The results of this study reveal the origin and processing of shrimp paste in Kuala Sungai Pasir Village, which was started by Muhammad Toyib and his family in the 1986s selling in the village. The role of women in shrimp paste processing as cultural maintainers, as cultural successors, cultural actors, and contributing greatly to the family economy and making them guardians of tradition as well as the main actors in the process of processing shrimp paste. This process begins with preparing raw materials such as salt, sugar, food coloring, and shrimp paste, which go through long stages, including selecting shrimp paste, cleaning, fermentation, drying, grinding, forming, packaging, to selling products in the market.
