This research is entitled "The procession for making Suro porridge and its meaning at the Al-Mahmudiyah 30 Ilir Mosque in Palembang." This research explains and also discusses the process for making Suro porridge and the meaning contained in the procession for making Suro porridge at the Al-Mahmudiyah 30 Ilir Mosque in Palembang. In this research the author used qualitative research methods. Research with a qualitative approach explores the complexity of relationships between phenomena through in-depth analysis. Data collection uses observation, interviews and documentation. The findings obtained from this research explain the process of making Ashura Porridge which has historical roots starting from the story of the Prophet Nuh AS. When he experienced a major flood. All the existing food is mixed, thus creating Ashura Porridge. At the Al-Mahmudiyah Mosque in Palembang, Ashura Porridge is more familiarly called "Suro Porridge". This tradition is carried out every 10th of Muharram and also during the month of Ramadan. The ingredients used consist of various spices and the main ingredients are rice and meat. This tradition has important meaning, including commemorating the Hijrah of the Prophet Muhammad SAW which marks the beginning of the Hijriyah calendar. Suro porridge is also an expression of gratitude for the blessings of Allah SWT, a symbol of blessings, and a means to strengthen togetherness.
