Abstract
Abstract
The research entittled cohesion and coherence in Ahlan's short story in Al-Jarimah's diwan by Naguib Mahfouz aims to find out the cohesion and coherence tools contained in Ahlan's short story in Al-Jarimah's diwan. The method had be used in this study was a qualitative descriptive method with a discourse analysis approach. The collected data was analyzed using the distribution method. Then in the data analysis the researcher used the distribution method. The results of this study which are seen from the unifying form or cohesion there are grammatical cohesion in the form of references, substitutions, ellipsis, and conjunctions. In addition, there is also lexical cohesion in the form of repetition, synonyms, hyponyms, antonyms, and equivalences. While in terms of coherence, there are tools in the form of causal relationships, reason relationships, intent relationships, consequence relationships, goal relationships, conditional relationships, explanation relationships, evidence relationships, inference relationships, justification relationships, solution relationships, and motivational relationships.
