ABSTRACT
Maenan Sriwijaya is a traditional martial art that is still developing the Sultanate of Palembang Darussalam. The uniquenessin its movement with the meaning of motion which is made as a principle of life by the perpetrators of Kuntau Sriwijaya makes this martial art continueto be preserved to this day. This martial art was lost and disappeared from the Malay lands due to differences in assumptions between ordinarypeople and the perpetrators of Kuntau Sriwijaya. The purpose of this research is to find out how to represent meaning in the Kuntau Sriwijaya martial arts movement. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research method. Through direct observation and interviews and supported by relevant litelature studies, the meaning of motion in martial arts is studied using Roland Barthes semiotic theory which is knoown as two-stage significance consisting of three meanings, namely meaning denotation, connotation and myth. There are several movements in the Kuntau Sriwijaya martial art the represent meanings that are dominated by the application of meaning as a form of cultural manifestation. The meaning of denotation is a martial art moveent that is played by using hand movements to break the opponent, parry, press the ground, uphold the sky to form chakras and movements that intersect with nature. The connotation meaning that in the Kuntau Sriwijaya martial art movement is interpreted as a martial arts movements played by a martial arts actor by dominating between movement and philosophy as well as the terms in Kuntau Sriwijaya. The meaniing of myths in the Kuntau Sriwijaya martial art includes respecting others, maintaining a sense of peace, self-awareness, self-awareness of accountability, being humble, always not seeing the short comings of others, instiling excessive love for Allah and His Messenger, priotizing the lower people over officials high, an attitude that does does not discriminate against race and ethnicity, always balances human reason and mind.
